To hunt deer, I think I need a regular cylinder choke to shoot rifled slugs. What other choke could I use with rifled shot? Please advise. WebDec 3, 2009 · No, rifled slugs were originally meant to be shot from a smooth bore. The "riflling" is molded into the slugs. The "rifling" doesn't really do anything other than look "cool." They are of a weight foward design. Basically the rear of the slug acts as a feather and keeps it flying straight ahead. The projectile looses energy after a shorter distance than a rifled barrel because it doesn’t have as much spin… and yes, I said it doesn’t have as much spin.
